NEARPOD is a website that allows the teacher to make presentations and also include interactive activities such as find pairs, quizzes, draw and guess and collaborative boards. The free version has limited space so you have to eliminate the presentations continuously if you want to create new ones. I mainly use the website for interactive activities in review sessions just before the test.

NEWS IN LEVELS

News in Levels is an application to improve your English with world news and videos in three levels and you can also test yourself.

I use this website because I can create many activities from it. As most of my students are higher technicians, level 3 would be the appropriate one for them as it is the highest level, but you have levels 1 & 2 which will do for Secondary students as well.

I've recently found this BBC website where you can see plenty of videos (clips, interviews...) from years gone by. There are, for example, videos from the 1960's, 1970's or 1980's. If you go on the "Collections" section at the top you will find divided sections, such as "Around the UK"; "Arts and Entertainment"; "Children's"; "Society"; "Food and drink"... So you can select videos on whatever topic you are covering in class. I think these videos are really useful to make students compare past times with their own time, and I have found that the interviews to children from the 60's or 70's are really interesting, as you can see how well they expressed themselves (maybe because they read more?).

RAP ABOUT CLIMATE CRISIS

Check out this great rap made by Irish kids about the climate crisis and the environment. It's really useful if you're going through that topic in any of your ESO classes:

One Small Change was made by children at the Irish Cappabue National School, near Bantry in Co Cork, as a response to polluted beaches.

"MAY" TO EXPRESS WISHES (FUN WAY TO LEARN)

It is not very usual to see this use of "MAY" in textbooks whenever we have to teach modal verbs (for example in 4th ESO or 1st Bachillerato levels).

That is why I think students MAY also find fun to learn this function of "wishing somebody something" using "may".

I have designed an interactive image on Genially where they will find:

• An Irish blessing ("May the road rise up to meet you...")
• A video with Bob Dylan's song "Forever Young" ("May you always be courageous..." / "May your hands always be busy...")
• A photo of a voodoo doll and some text with funny "bad wishes" for an ex-lover: ("May you grow spots on your back..." / "May you forget all your passwords"...)

As an easy fun activity students can write their own good wishes for a loved person and also some funny bad wishes for somebody who has let them down.

GREETINGS IN THE MORNING

One of the resources I usually put into practice, especially before the COVID, is the GREETING CHART. On Monday morning, before the classes start, I welcome my students with the greeting they choose from a chart displayed at the entrance door to the classroom. They choose and we greet. It is really fun and lifts your spirits because it is a marvellous way of starting the morning and the week and they love it!

Online and offline avatars

I've just discovered this web page where students can create an avatar selecting the topic they like: superhero, Harry Potter, Manga, Zombie, Vampire, Pirate, Medieval, Star Trek, Goth, Cthulhu or Flags.

Then, they could use his or her avatar in Gamification games, ClassDojo or any other app the teacher uses in class.
