A letter to your future self

By Beatriz González and Blanca Serrano

The activities realated to writing to yourself of 5 years ago or writing to your future self, I believe it's a great exercise for writing and also at an emotional level. This is an exersice to improve English but also to make students reflect about their past and future in a creative way!

This is a great tool for this activity: https://www.futureme.org/

Story cubes

By Jara María Fernández, Arantzazu Fernández, Alba Paredes and Laura Benito.

I have just bought a box of story dices to practice past tenses. I have never used them before. I'm afraid some low-grade students could have some serious difficulties when trying to tell a story based on the cube's pictures on one hand, and some other students might experience a lack of imagination on the other. However, I will give a try.

In my case, as I´m a secondary school I think is a great idea to make them think and make up a story, maybe one day in which you do not want to use the book because they are tired.
It could be done as a speaking but afther that thet could write it or even make a comic.
I´ll get them!.

I usually use them in my Speaking classes. In advanced groups, they are told to write a story on their own and in low-level groups, I let them work in pairs.

Story cubes are very useful materials for encouraging students to talk or write stories.

And you can also make them. Here you have some webpages where you can print them for free:

You may also have story cubes online using this genially:

NEARPOD

By Beatriz Díez

NEARPOD is a website that allows the teacher to make presentations and also include interactive activities such as find pairs, quizzes, draw and guess and collaborative boards. The free version has limited space so you have to eliminate the presentations continuously if you want to create new ones. I mainly use the website for interactive activities in review sessions just before the test.

I hope you enjoy the resource!

NEWS IN LEVELS

By Montserrat Santidrián

News in Levels is an application to improve your English with world news and videos in three levels and you can also test yourself.

I use this website because I can create many activities from it. As most of my students are higher technicians, level 3 would be the appropriate one for them as it is the highest level, but you have levels 1 & 2 which will do for Secondary students as well.

Online and offline avatars

By Laura Benito

I've just discovered this web page where students can create an avatar selecting the topic they like: superhero, Harry Potter, Manga, Zombie, Vampire, Pirate, Medieval, Star Trek, Goth, Cthulhu or Flags.

Then, they could use his or her avatar in Gamification games, ClassDojo or any other app the teacher uses in class.

By Alejandro Gil

Thanx! you made me remind this page I used long ago: https://www.cubeecraft.com/

They can choose their favorite character, download it, and then cut it and create it and use it for their avatars in moodle or in microsoft teams.

EDPUZZLE

Por Mario Muñoz Alonso

I normally use in class videos from EDPUZZLE. In this webpage you can find videos from YouTube and you are allowed to include questions on those videos as if it were a comprehension practice. There are plenty of videos created by other users and you can make your own videos with the questions you consider more relevant for your class.

This is an example:

As you can see, there are different type of questions.

WORDLE, a successful word game

By Alejandro Gil Rivero

WORDLE is the game that rocks it right now!! I'm totally into it!!

You have to guess the each-day-word in less than 6 attempts. It gives you clues about the position of the letters that you guess.

Fiction Express

By Beatriz González

Fiction express is a website to encourage reading among our students! They can read in English as well as Spanish. The author writes a chapter and gives students 3 different ways of countinuing the story! Students vote and he continues writing next chapter as students chose. They have quizzes, activities and can even talk on a forum to the author as well as other students. It's really interesting! We got it in our school for free thanks to la Junta de Castilla y León and we are using it this school year in both, English and Spanish.

Hope this helps as you have already talked about all the resources I use on my classes!

Baamboozle

By Verónica Aguirre

This is an AWESOME web page. It is totally free and it has everything you can think of for English teachers or even teachers of different subjects in English. Besides, you can have them answer the questions one by one or play in teams, which they love!

Wordwall

By Verónica Aguirre

Wordwall is an amazing website for students. You can play with them projecting it for the whole class or sending them the link of the activities they must do. They love it!

You just need to register and it is totally free. There are different games and you can also create some (if you want to create a lot you will have to pay for this). There, you can find spinning wheels, definition games, who wants to be millionaire, questionnaires...
