Lyrics Training

By Leyre Estébanez

LyricsTraining can be particularly useful to teachers looking for a fun and entertaining way to teach new words and help students improve their listening skills. Although it's most appropriate for older kids, teachers could potentially use it with younger English-language learners, provided that they carefully curate age-appropriate titles. It's easy to use this site's print options to curate cloze-reading passages using students' favorite songs.

This app is very motivating. It can be downloaded in the phone or tablet or you can use it on the Internet. It has different levels and languages. You have to choose a song and the activity (multiple choice or karaoke) and play! Great fun specially for teenagers while they practice their listening.

FIND THE FIB/ESL VIDEO

By Jara María Fernández

  • Offline resources:

FIND THE FICTION:

This is a Cooperative Learning structure suggested by Kagan. It is mainly a problem-solving task. It is fun because students need to search for the truth so that they can guess the fib. The teacher starts giving three statements about his personal issues to the class. Two of the statements are true, and one is false. Taking turns around the team, one student at a time reads their three statements as if they are all true. The other students on the team can talk to each other about which statement they think is the FIB.

One example:

What kind of person do you think I am? What have I done in my life or where have I been to?

Here there are three statements about myself. Two statements are true and one of them is false. What sentence is false according to you?

  1. I can speak Swedish.

  2.  I have been to New York.

  3.  I’m  from  Barcelona.

I use this resource for flipped classroom activities. Students are assigned to watch a video and answer the questions at their own pace. Students can also be tracked by the teacher if the teacher sends them a class code. As a teacher, you can also create your own activities with authentic material (ted talks, songs, etc) and this material can be adapted based on the difficulty of questions related to the video.

Create your own airline ticket through this web page.

It's very easy to do it. You only have to follow 3 steps.

Write your name and surname, your destination, the boarding time and the airline company you want to fly with.

Then, download your ticket and print it.

It's so fun :D

NEARPOD

By Beatriz Díez

NEARPOD is a website that allows the teacher to make presentations and also include interactive activities such as find pairs, quizzes, draw and guess and collaborative boards. The free version has limited space so you have to eliminate the presentations continuously if you want to create new ones. I mainly use the website for interactive activities in review sessions just before the test.

I hope you enjoy the resource!

NEWS IN LEVELS

By Montserrat Santidrián

News in Levels is an application to improve your English with world news and videos in three levels and you can also test yourself.

I use this website because I can create many activities from it. As most of my students are higher technicians, level 3 would be the appropriate one for them as it is the highest level, but you have levels 1 & 2 which will do for Secondary students as well.
